Josephian Masculinities

Josephian Masculinities

2022

PREMIERE: ST.Joseph’s Church, OUTBURST Queer Festival, 12.11.2022, Belfast

Josephian Masculinities is a collaborative performance presented in St Joseph’s church in Sailortown, a deconsecrated space maintained through community organising. Multidisciplinary artists Alka Nauman and Eimear Walshe are using lenses of their queerness to study the gentle masculinity of St. Joseph patron of fathers, workers and happy death that gets no word of speech in the Bible. Alka Nauman and Eimear Walshe met at Outburst Queer Festival in 2021, and found a crossover of interests in relation to national and religious material culture in Ireland and Poland. They are also both working on projects which relate to dance and nationhood, and research in local histories of sexuality.
